Manipal College of Medical Sciences (MCOMS), Nepal is one of the premier institutions of Nepal, offering programs in medicine. MCOMS offers a five and a half years MBBS (four and a half years + one year internship) degree programme, besides PG (MD/MS/DM) and Nursing (PCL/BSc) programs. The language of instruction at MCMOMS is English. It was established in 1994 as first private medical college of Nepal and was born out of the vision to build global leadership in human development, education and health care partnerships and a ‘Health for all’ mission.

 

MCOMS is the result of collaboration between the Manipal Education Group and the Government of Nepal. MCOMS is affiliated to the Kathmandu University and is recognised across the world, for its high standards of excellence.

STUDENT MESS

Messes in the two campuses provide Indo-Nepali vegetarian / non-vegetarian food. The monthly mess bill is approx. Nepali Rs7,500/- for four meals a day.

Both the campuses have canteens, attached to the dining halls, and their rates are regulated through rate contracts.

COURSE & ELIGIBILITY

Eligibility Criteria:

To be considered eligible for selection to the MBBS program, a candidate:

 

a) Must have qualified 10+2, A Level or equivalent examination, with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) securing a minimum of 50% in each PCB subject (which, in general, equals to minimum ‘C’ grades for Sri Lankan A Level and ‘D’ grades for International A Levels e.g., EDEXCEL/Cambridge) and 50% in aggregate.

 

b) Must have qualified Medical Entrance Test (MET) of the Medical Education Commission, Govt of Nepal or 50% percentile in NEET/SAT/equivalent exams.

OTHER FACILITIES

The mission of the library is to acquire, manage, provide and disseminate all health sciences information to students, faculty, and research scholars of the college.

 

The library of Manipal College of Medical Science is functioning from a spilt campus, it has been necessary to duplicate the library facilities. The main library is at Deep with an extension at MTH, Phulbari to look after the basic and clinical science students respectively.

 

Both the libraries are open from 8:30 AM to 12:00 midnight on all weekdays including Saturdays and holidays except Dashain and Tihar (Deepawali) vacations.

The Deep Campus Library consists of personal property counter/reception and issue return counter, and study area.

 

There is a senior librarian and resources in the following:

 

WHO collection, News magazines and journals, Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Community Medicine, Pathology, Pharmacology and Allied Health Sciences.

HOSTEL

Student hostels are 100% residential and available to the students. There are separate hostels for men and women.

All the hostel rooms are provided on a twin-sharing basis and have furniture and other amenities like geysers for hot water. During the winters the minimum temperature is around 4 - 8 deg C, so warm clothing is needed. Housekeeping and laundry are outsourced.

The hostels are looked after by the Hostel Committee headed by the Director Student Affairs. He functions with the help of Wardens and Administration. The hostel staff consists of caretakers/supervisors, other attendants and maintenance staff.

 

DEEP CAMPUS:

The Basic Sciences students are accommodated in hostels in the Deep Campus. The rooms are planned for single occupancy. The campus has two dining halls, a canteen, gym, TV, playing fields, communications centre with internet, email, fax, photocopying facilities etc.

 

PHULBARI CAMPUS:

Two hostel blocks consisting of six floors, each floor has 40 rooms, provide accommodation for 480 students of the clinical phase. The rooms are planned for single occupancy and each has an attached bathroom and balcony. The boys’ hostel basement holds a common dining hall, canteen, gym, TV and indoor recreational facilities. The hostel has a communications centre with internet, email, fax, photocopying facilities. Each hostel has a Warden from the teaching faculty of the colleges who is responsible for the discipline, maintenance of building, allotment of rooms etc.
