INTRODUCTION

Birmingham City University is a university in Birmingham, England. Initially established as the Birmingham College of Art with roots dating back to 1843, it was designated as a polytechnic in 1971 and gained university status in 1992. The university has two main campuses serving four faculties, and offers courses in art and design, business, the built environment, computing, education, engineering, English, healthcare, law, the performing arts, social sciences, and technology. It is the second largest of five universities in the city, the other four being the University of Birmingham (which is the largest), Aston University, University College Birmingham and Newman University. The university runs access and foundation programmes through an international network of associated universities and further education colleges, and has the highest intake of foreign students in the Birmingham area.

CAMPUSES:

City Centre Campus, located is the home of Birmingham School of Acting and the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment inside Millennium Point. The Parkside Building, adjacent to Millennium Point and connected to it via a bridge, opened its doors in 2013, housing Birmingham School of Media and design courses from the Faculty of Arts, Design and Media. The Curzon Building houses the Faculty of Business, Law and Social Sciences and the School of English, as well as the library, Students' Union and other support services. Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, moved to the City Centre Campus in 2017.
City South Campus is based in Edgbaston. The main hub is the Mary Seacole Building on Westbourne Road, home to the university's health, education and life sciences courses, and a moderate amount of student accommodation.

TOP COURSES:

Business - BA (Hons): The course will provide students with the opportunity to develop specialist business expertise while helping them learn key transferable skills, all of which will help them stand out when it comes to securing employment

Students will be able to develop a wide range of cognitive and intellectual skills, together with competencies specific to business and enterprise.
Students will gain an insight into a digital business, explore how technology has remodeled the business world, and reflect on accompanying issues around social responsibility and ethical behavior.
Students learning will embrace the development and operation of business markets, the management of key resources including human capital, financial management, strategic management and cultural awareness, since we believe business can’t be studied in isolation.

Computer Science - BSc (Hons):

The course will develop skills in producing computer systems solutions and students will gain a sound mathematical and scientific understanding alongside developing the professional attitude needed in the industry
Students will study the fundamental concepts of computer science in the first year, including computer programming, data structures and algorithms, information systems, computer networks, and computer architecture
In your second year, students will consolidate their learning by studying advanced subjects that emphasize software engineering skills
During the course, students will have the opportunity to take a sandwich placement year between the second and third year.

Computing and Information Technology - BSc (Hons): The course is designed for students who want to combine a highly rigorous academic qualification with real-life practical work experiences, enabling them to put their learning into innovative practice

The degree will equip students with the technical and managerial skills students will need to embark on a successful IT career
Students will use first-class, industry-standard equipment, and labs, and have the chance to put their academic learning into practice on a placement year - all of which will prepare students for an information technology career with a range of companies
Students will also develop the strategic mindset to address global challenges; the kind that that businesses and communities face on a day-to-day basis to maintain their digital infrastructure.

Psychology - BSc (Hons): The program provides knowledge of core and specialized areas in psychology

Students will apply scientific reasoning and evaluate patterns of behavior, gaining key transferable skills in communication, teamwork and problem- solving
Students will develop knowledge and understanding of Quantitative and Qualitative Research Methods
Students will explore how the six core areas in Psychology can explain factors that influence the mind, brain, behaviour and experience, and of the complex interactions between these.

Finance and Investment - BSc (Hons): The programme is focused on a practical application of financial skills in the investing world, qualities that are in high demand in modern finance and investment management sectors

The program is designed to equip students with technical knowledge and skills in line with the Investment Management Certificate qualification from the Chartered Financial Analyst Society UK, as well as a range of employability attributes
The course will also encourage students development and commitment to becoming an investment professional
The course also has the option of a sandwich year, wherein students will get to go on year-long industry placement, giving them an invaluable real-world employment experience

Civil Engineering - BEng (Hons) / Meng:

The course is designed to meet the requirements of relevant professional bodies, will give students a career in civil engineering a head start
Students will be provided with knowledge of the scientific, technical, environmental, economic, and managerial aspects of civil engineering so that they will be able to apply themselves to both the design and management of civil engineering projects

Mechanical Engineering - BEng (Hons) / Meng: The program aims to produce a skilled engineer capable of undertaking mechanical engineering tasks within and across organizations

The course will encourage students creative thinking and develop their engineering leadership skills
Students will engage in independent study and systematic inquiry at an advanced level and take responsibility for the conclusions drawn from it
Students will also explore the wider context of engineering, as well as the application of advanced engineering principles to solve problems through research and development.

Fine Art - BA (Hons):

The course gives students the support of professionals to choose their own creative journey and flourish as an artist, curator, teacher or working in other creative fields
The course encourages students to experiment in or across painting, sculpture, printmaking, drawing, photography, installation, film and video
Students will curate exhibitions, have the opportunity to take part in work placements and exchanges, and go on national and international study visits
